VaranasiVaranasi is one of the holiest cities of India. Situated on the banks of the river Ganga, it is also one of the oldest inhabited cities on earth. Often referred to by the old name of Kashi - literally meaning "the luminous" - in reference to it's history of a centre of art, of learning and of culture. Asha Deep Vidyashram Started in 2004 the aim of this school is "to give children a chance to break free free from the vicious circle of poverty by providing them access to education in a loving environment, enabling them to live with dignity and respect." The children of the school come from a local hostal for children without guardians, and the local community who live in very poor housing and families where the parents are illiterate. |
